Welcome to the Center For European Studies at Rutgers

The Center's mission is to promote research and teaching on modern Europe at Rutgers and to foster intellectual exchanges between members of the Rutgers community and European scholars and institutions. The CES sponsors an undergraduate major and minor in European Studies and hosts a Graduate Associates Program, bringing together an interdisciplinary group of graduate students with research interests in Europe. Every year, the CES hosts a rich assortment of public lectures, conferences and outreach activities that foster deeper understanding of European history, politics and culture.

CES Director Professor R. Daniel Kelemen holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Politics. Funded by the European Commission, the Jean Monnet Chair supports teaching, research and public events on European integration. The CES is also active in outreach throughout the state – in 2010 the CES was awarded a Getting to Know Europe Grant by the European Union Delegation in Washington, DC to promote awareness of the EU in communities across New Jersey.

Please explore our website, which details our activities and provides information on upcoming events. We hope you will join us in supporting  European Studies at Rutgers.
