European Union Institutions

The European Union (EU) is made up of three main institutions:

• the European Parliament
• the Council of the European Union
• the European Commission

Two other institutions play vital roles:

• the European Court of Justice
• the European Court of Auditors

In addition to the above, the EU has a number of specialized agencies:

• the European Central Bank
• the European Economic and Social Committee
• the Committee of the Regions
